Govt Expresses Satisfaction With Bank PHB
This Day
26 June 2007
Kano State government has said it is delighted with the offer by Bank PHB to give scholarship to 20 students, and construct libraries in some schools in the state.
The State Governor, Mallam Ibrahim Shekarau, expressed this while receiving management of the bank led by its Director, Brigadier General Lawal Jafaru Isa, said the move is in line with his administration's human development programme.
A statement by Mallam Sule Yau Sule, Director of Press and Public Relations to the Governor, said while commending the bank for its high sense of social responsibility, Shekarau requested the bank to assist government in training its civil servants on financial resources management.
He said his administration is focusing on economic development, poverty alleviation and youth empowerment, suggesting that banks could be instrumental in these respects.
Managing Director of the bank, Mr Francis Atuche, said the bank will award scholarship to 20 indigent but bright students, and construct and stock about three libraries in some schools in the state. He also disclosed plans to work with the state government to set up a N1 billion micro finance bank with branches across the state to enhance socio-economic development.
In a related development, Shekarau advised management of Spring Bank Plc to initiate proposals on how his government and the bank can work together to address poverty and youth unemployment. He made the call when he hosted management of Sterling Bank Plc, led by its board Chairman, Alhaji Sulaiman Baffa, at the government house. Shekarau also received management of Unity Bank Plc, led by its Managing Director, Alhaji Falalu Bello.
