LSG Fashola Commends Pres. Yar'Adua' s Position on Fed. Property

7th May '08

Lagos State Governor Babatunde Fashola (SAN) yesterday commended the position of President Umaru Musa Yar'Adua on the lingering dispute over federal property in the state. He said the President's stance would boost the international community's confidence in the economy.

Fashola said the position of the President was consistent with the feedback given to a delegation sent to the Presidency to discuss the issue shortly after the swearing-in of Yar'Adua. He said the Presidency had demonstrated a rare courage to tackle a lingering crisis that was about 40 years old. Yar'Adua had opted for dialogue with the state over the ownership, use, management and control of federal landed property in the state.

Fashola  said "He (President) has demonstrated rare courage to embark on the resolution of a problem that is 40 years old. It shows the determination of a government that is willing to stick to the rule of law and it shows his great understanding and clarity of thoughts that this issue has a way of affecting the whole efforts to reposition the nation.

It is gratifying to see that we now have a leader who is ready to negotiate the areas of conflicts with the component states of this country. It sends the best investment signal to the whole world that the government is not going to be high-handed, that investment in Nigeria is safe and that no government would be atrocious.
