Christian Newspaper Launches Website
24th Feb. '09
As part of its first anniversary celebration, the Church Times, a Nigerian Christian newspaper, has just launched its website www.churchtimesng.com in Lagos, Nigeria. Speaking about the website and the activities of the newspaper in the past one year, the Publisher/Editor-in-chief Brother Gbenga Osinaike said the website is to reposition the newspaper and also promote its activities so the world can benefit from its reach contents.
He noted that Church Times is a publication that seeks to promote the church and Christians in all areas of interest adding that it is the product of an age-long vision to report the church in a professional way, with a view to promoting Christian values and morals. "Without prejudice to the generally acceptable definition of the word church, which is the body of Christ, we have come to see the church as a gathering where the name of the Lord is being called and where the bible is being preached. We recognize that this definition is subject to abuse as many gatherings claim to preach Christ and the bible," he added.
He further stated: "We are not oblivious of this. We are however not going to play the role of an umpire as regards shutting out some gatherings from this publication. But we want to state that the publication will cover all such gatherings that go by the name Church. We have our own position on the issue of the church. We believe building designated church is a place where God is being honored, where the time tested truth of the scriptures is being preached and where Jesus Christ is recognized as both Lord and King."
Brother Osinaike pointed out that Church Times believe that any gathering that is worth the name of the Lord must not condone any form of immorality and that this is not to say that the church as we all know it is full of perfect people. He said his newspaper would rather leave the readers to read between the lines in its stories in all their contents stating that the ultimate aim of the newspaper is to make the publication a weekly affair and to throw a search light on the activities of believers.
He noted that the publication will also seek to write on business and Christians in business. "We shall deliberately promote Christian businesses and ensure that they get our attention. We shall report on the right way to do business and be able to tell the world that business can be done with integrity. In the business column efforts shall be made to write on investment related issues and educate people on how to start business and how to grow in those businesses."
According to Bro Osinaike one of the strong points of Church Times is to run down to earth interviews with believers adding that the interviewees could be pastors, or a Christians who has a testimony or who has a story to tell. "But we will deliberately look for men and women of God that have testimonies and feature them on the interview pages. Occasionally we will also run interviews with people who are controversial who may have some things to say on Christians."
Brother Osinaike said a page is devote solely for testimonies and that these testimonies would be the ones that they are sure will affect lives and cause a transformation in the lives of people. "We shall also highlight some testimonies in a news form. This will be done professionally as we dig deep into the testimonies and write on all angles."
"There is also a column for foreign news. This news will be on activities of believers who are outside the country and how it affects us here in Nigeria. There will also be pages devoted to sports and lifestyle. We shall deliberately set out to write on men and women in the kingdom of God who are doing exploits. The page shall be called Kingdom People and it'll seek to promote Christians who are doing great things in all fields of human endeavors, he added."
ANS notes that in December 21, 2008 Church Times celebrated its first anniversary and speaking during the event Bro Osinaike urged Christians in the media to work towards promoting the cause of Christ in whatever they do adding that this is the only way they could be blessed of God. "We are in a generation where many believers in the work place bear the light of God and are yet to come to terms with the saving grace of God even when we call ourselves Christians. I urge Christians to re-examine themselves and live for the Lord," he also said during the anniversary.
