Sierra Leonean Refugees in Nigeria Celebrate their Independence
29th April '08
Sierra Leonean refugees in Oru camp located in south west Ogun State of Nigeria yesterday rolled out the drums to celebrate the country's forty seven years Independence Day, with a call on those at home and diaspora to work towards uplifting the country to greater heights. "We all owe it a duty to make our country strong, no matter our location.
We cannot succeed if we are not ready to forget about the past, it then behoves on us to think of what we can do for our country not what our country can do for us alone ," the Sierra Leoneans refugees welfare council chairman, Charles Lebbie told his compatriots at the ceremony. The day was marked with music, dance, drama sketch and cultural displays with the central message on the need for African leaders to work towards promoting peace and shunning acts that can plunge their country into war.
