An Industrialist has said that technical skills acquisition is essential for the development of the country, in order to achieve industrial growth.
The Director, Field Services, Manufacturers Association of Nigeria, Mr. Joe Ifejika, said that the importance of skill acquisition should not be underestimated for industrial growth. He said that technical skill acquisition was a critical need for the development of the economy, as no country could develop without the required technical know how.

Ifejika said during the graduation ceremony held by John Holt Plc for 11 trainees, that the essence of the event was to ensure that skills were being impacted on to young men and women in the country, as the company had added value to their lives, thereby contributing to the development of the country.

He said, ”They have empowered this young men by giving them adequate training, and they have not only done this, but employed them in the company, thereby giving them a future, so I think it is a good development towards the industrialisation of this country. ”These young men have been trained not only to install generators, but also to maintain them, and they have acquired electrical and mechanical skills, so I believe it is a good thing.

Around 102 women and youths selected from rural communities in Katsina have been trained on trade and skills acquisition as part of efforts aimed at empowering rural communities in the state.

The women and youths, trained under the state's Community Based Agriculture and Rural Development Programme (IFAD-CBARDP), were presented with support materials by the state's Agriculture Commissioner, Alhaji Abdulaziz Moh'd in a ceremony that saw several stakeholders in the sector in attendance.

At the event, the commissioner reiterated the state government's determination to reduce poverty, promote rural empowerment, and to continue to support initiatives that are targeted towards improving the living conditions of people in the state.

Moh'd said the IFAD-CBARDP programme has made significant impact on the rural economy, adding that training youths on trade acquisition would greatly reduce unemployment and assist them become self reliant. He enjoined participants to make good use of support materials provided and contribute meaningfully to the development of their areas and state in general.

The state's managing director of the Agriculture and Rural Development Authority (KTARDA), Alhaji Abba Jamo, used the occasion to give breakdown of the training; saying that 36 women drawn from 12 participating council areas were trained on mechanised groundnut oil extraction, while 72 unemployed youths received training on the production of local drinks.
