Eulogies have continued to trail the death of one of Nigeria’s most talented artists, Oba Wole Amele. Amele, who acted as ‘Counsellor Balogun’ in the rested Village Headmaster, died last Sunday, after a brief illness.

Speaking to Daily Independent, Tunde Kelani, a renowned filmmaker who had featured Amele in some of his films, expressed shock over his death.
He described the demise of the multi-talented artist as a terrible loss to the industry.

Aside from featuring in Tunde Kelani’s films, both were very close friends during his lifetime. In a tribute to Amele, Kelani described him as a cheerful person when he was on set. “Even when he was not acting, he gave us moral support. We will miss him terribly”, Kelani said.

Also reacting to Amele’s death, Justus Esiri, who was also a close friend of the dead actor and a co-actor on the Village Headmaster set, nearly broke down in tears when Daily Independent spoke to him on the telephone. Esiri kept saying, “Oh my God, I hate to remember this.”
He later described Amele as a jolly good fellow and a friend. Commenting on Amele’s career as an artist, Esiri was full of praise, “He knew the act of expressing himself. He really knew the performing act and he is somebody one would like to work with”.

In addition to Village Headmaster, Amele also acted in Kosegbe alongside Jide Kosoko and Kola Oyewo. He again took part in Ayo Ni Mofe, Oleku, and Toluwanile. Amele’s last production before he became a king was in Coming to Africa, a movie he made to tell the story of his struggle to the throne.
