Super Eagles Coach Closely Watching Mikel
7th Oct. '08
Nigeria's Super Eagels manager Amodu has been in conversation with Chelsea's Brazilian World Cup winning coach Luiz Felipe Scolari about how John Mikel Obi can be best utilised for the national team. With the exit of Claude Makelele and the long-term absence of Michael Essien, John Obi Mikel has seen as much pitch-time as Chelsea's most famous names.
Shuiabu Amodu, head coach of the Nigerian national team, is fully aware of the situation emerging at Stamford Bridge and the blossoming of the former Lyn Oslo midfielder John Obi, and has been in discussion with Chelsea manager Luiz Felipe Scolari as to how the Super Eagles can benefit from Mikel's form, without incoveniencing the west London side.
Amodu together with Amanze Uchegbulam (the First Vice-Chairman of the Nigerian Football Federation) were in attendance during Chelsea's 2-0 victory over Aston Villa. A game that was hailed by Villan's manager Martin O'Neill as the Blues' greatest victory of the current campaign. The entirity of the Chelsea playing staff produced a scintillating display, and Amodu would have been delighted with what he saw.
Nigerian journal, the Nation sports journal quoted NFF chairman Sani Lulu as saying that Amodu wanted Scolari's advice as to how best utilise Mikel during the next stage of the world cup qualifiers. Nigeria have thus far played five and won five in their section, conceding zero goals, and face Sierra Leone on October 11 with the intention of maintaining their impeccable - and faultless - start to the qualifiers.
