Destined to Suffer

Why do some people get certain diseases, experience loss, pain and suffering that are not self-inflicted and beyond their control while others don't? Are these people destined by the Almighty to go through these and if so, why are others protected by the same Almighty from going through that as well? If not, what are the explanations?

Are some people "destined to suffer" be it from natural disasters, starvation, accidents, mishaps, diseases, misfortunes and the evil that other men do?
