I am proud to be a Nigerian, because in all of its turmoil I see the beauty in it, of a people blended together, Beautiful black men and women with honor who have fought and died for that country. Who have made a change in history, and directed our course in the right manner. Good and Evil do and must co-exist, but it is to the good of mankind that we cheer for good always and not always turn praise to sour grapes.
Take time and reflect, that even our parents were good examples to us, and if not, that we are good examples to our children in order to create a better breed and generation to run our country.
May God Bless you, Nigeria and African.
Long Live Nigeria

I am proud to be of Nigerian descent. I have lived and worked in many countries, but when I see (or sense) another Nigerian in the room - or anywhere - I know I am home. I know I am instantly loved, in spite of any differences of opinion. We can share a laugh, an inside joke; speak a secret language that no one else in the room understands.
Last, but not least, I am proud to be Nigerian because my name has a musicality and history and meaning that connects me to my ancestors. I take every opportunity to teach my American and British friends, not only my names and their meanings (Oluwakemi, Folasade, Ololade...(there's more), but, also my oriki. It's poetry to me and I communicate that to them. They are riveted and eager to know more. Several of them have actually committed my names and oriki to memory.
To my fellow countrymen and women: Use every opportunity to teach others about your country and culture. In that way, you'll be helping to dispel the misinformation about Nigeria and, indeed, Africa, as a whole.
And one more thing...be a good ambassador and represent your country well. |
