The Supernatural of GodThe Supernatural of God
The Herald
Aug 08, 2007
In this issue we look at the role of the Holy Spirit and the Word of God in our lives... helping us to walk in the Supernatural of God on a daily basis in everyday life.
I am an advocate of allowing the Spirit of God room to move and he moves in my meetings, because he is very welcome. Signs, wonders and miracles are an inherent part of Christian ministry, or, perhaps I would be better saying that they should be an integral part of ministry. We see this throughout the bible. The presence of God… the supernatural of God was evident with Moses, Joshua, Sampson, Elijah, Elisha and others.
It was inherent in the life and ministry of Jesus and was a hallmark of the ministry in the early church. Acts 2:19,22,43; Acts 4:30; Acts 5:12; Acts 14:3; Romans 15:19; 2 Corinthians 2:12 and Hebrews 2:4 are typical examples of how the Spirit of God moved in the lives of ordinary and extraordinary men and women. The precedents are there, but for the most part the contemporary church does not enjoy what should be the norm.
Oral Roberts told us that we are to be supernaturally natural and naturally supernatural, but some people shy away from this. It may be because of the fear of excess and there sure has been some of that stuff. It could be for lack of understanding, but that can be dealt with by sound teaching and the receipt of revelation. It could be due to many reasons of course, including the supposed risk of the counterfeit.
We are able to deal with the counterfeit very easily through wisdom and knowledge of the truth of the word of God and the various gifts of the Spirit such as a Word of knowledge or the Gift of discerning of spirits and we really do need them more and more today as time races to a close. We must understand the difference between sensationalism and emotionalism and genuine spirituality. Living in the supernatural of God does not require emotional demonstrations of the spectacular.
Living in the supernatural of God means that the word works when you apply it. Living in the supernatural means that you can take your everyday life, or the natural situation and circumstances of life that affect you and get the answers to them, by doing what God tells you and saying what he says. Everything was created by God’s word and everything is maintained by his word and he has given that word to us!
That way we can bring in God’s super- abilities, super-abundance and whatever super-lative expressions you choose into play. It can open the sea, heal the sick, raise the dead, provide a coin in the mouth of a fish, give a net-breaking, boat sinking catch of fish, feed thousands of hungry souls with a few morsels of food, shut the mouth of a lion, open a prison door, or save your family.
If we do not believe or expect to live supernaturally, we have missed the mark and fallen short of the glory of God, but we are not living in a circus and behaving theatrically as Hollywood would portray. When God pours out his glory and the Spirit of God falls upon us, we do not need to behave irrationally, act weirdly, or float blithely along in life on the good ship loppypop.
The person who lives in the supernatural of God is the person who lives normally, but lives in and because of God’s supernatural nature and ability. Oh, yes, we may shake, rattle and roll, shout and dance for joy when there are manifestations of God in our midst, but in the areas where it counts most are the mundane, ordinary, cut-me-and-I –bleed realities of life, when prayers are answered.
When your back is against a Red Sea and there is no way out; when the doctor’s report says you have a certain time left to live; when the company you are working for is laying people off because of hard times; when there is no food in the cupboard and the kids are hungry; when someone sticks a gun in your face and an angel delivers you; when you can lay your hands on the sick and they get well, you are living in the supernatural of God when you speak God’s word boldly in prayer and the answers come.
Often times no one else even knows it is happening!
Going to church and having an awesome song service; people dance in the aisles; roll on the floor in ecstatic laughter, speak in tongues and prophesy does not necessarily mean you are living in the supernatural. If you go home still bound with habits, in bondage, suffering lack, remain sick and the family is in crisis… you are not living supernaturally until you apply what you heard in the Word of God and see it working.
When that happens, then laugh the victors laugh, roll over the floor in glee and shout all you like When broken lives are mended, marriages saved, families reunited, bills are paid, someone did not die when the doctor’s report said they would, when someone wants what you have, when you got a raise when other people at work were laid off, because you dared stand on the promises of God and apply them… you are living in the supernatural of God.
Let let the good times come then to get emotional and always remember who did it for you. Remember to give God all the glory.
