The minister of state for power, Mrs Fatima Balaraba Ibrahim, has appealed to Nigerians to join the crusade against the vandalisation of oil, gas and electricity facilities, if the country should achieve the goal of becoming one of the 20 largest economies in the world by 2020.
The minister was speaking Monday in Abuja at a reception held for her and Alhaji Mansur Shehu, the special adviser on revenue to the Kebbi state governor, at Abuja Sheraton Hotel and Towers. It was organised by Hajiya Jumai Mansur Shehu.
"No matter how hard we try to fix the energy problem, particularly power, if sabotage persists, we will not solve the power problem and our economy will never develop. Let's collectively appeal to all Nigerians to stop vandalisation because enormous resources that should be used for some other useful projects are lost," she stated.
She said Vision 2020 was achievable if 'all Nigerians supported it and have unbending resolve to effectively guard and manage our resources without over reliance on foreigners.'
Alhaji Buhari Balla, chairman of the occasion and former minister of state for foreign affairs, urged Nigerians to support the minister in her resolve to tackle the power country's problems. "Her appointment was based on her capability to deliver; thus, I am confident she will do well for Nigeria if we support her," he said.
Hajiya Jumai Mansur Shehu, said she decided to celebrate the two worthy children of Kebbi because they have distinguished themselves in education and service. She expressed confidence that they will impact positively in the discharge of their duties.
Responding on behalf of the celebrants, special adviser on revenue to the Kebbi state dovernor, Alhaji Mansur Shehu, the Dan Galadinman Wazirin Gwandu, said they will not betray the confidence reposed in them. He assured of their commitment to service.
