Former Ghanaian President, Flight Lt. Jerry Rawlings (rtd), has offered to place his experience at the disposal of the Lagos state government.
Rawlings made the offer during a courtesy visit on the governor at the state house, Marina, saying "I pledge my readiness to assist the state government, anytime, whenever called upon to do so," He described the job of governing Lagos State as herculean, and appealed for cooperation and assistance of every Lagosian for the governor to succeed.
He described Nigeria as one of the most powerful and respected countries in the world, noting that the enhancement of Nigeria is the enhancement of Africa.
Governor Babatunde Fashola in his remarks, admitted that the tourism and hospitality potentials in the state are high veritable sources of revenue, that his administration was poised to explore to its fullest. Lagos State is the entertainment and tourism capital of Africa, adding that the present government in the state intended to fully harness these potentials. Which in addition to generating high revenue turn-over for the state, would also provide job opportunities for several youth.
Fashola said Lagos and Ghana share the same value and experience which could be explored for the mutual benefit of their citizens. The pre-colonial experiences such as it affected the challenges of liberating the people are part of what countries in the West African sub region are privy to," he said.
Fashola also thanked Governor of Niteshift Club, Mr Caleb Olunmhese for inviting Rawlings to Nigeria, and for his contributions to the development of tourism and the hospitality business in Lagos in particular, and Nigeria in general. "You have been persevering, consistent and focused in the hospitality business, and this is highly commendable," Fashola said.
