This Day
1st Feb. 2008

One of Nigeria's leading hospitality brand, Planet One Entertainment, has unfolded plans to give the Nigerian hospitality sector the first ever world class hospitality training academy, to raise the bar of excellence in the sector.

Speaking while receiving representatives of renowned Swiss based Ecole Hoteliere De Lausanne and indeed the world's first hotel school, during a facility visit to Planet One Entertainment in Maryland, Lagos, Mr. Solomon Ikhioda, its Vice President, Corporate Affairs and Creativity, promised a better future for the sector in Nigeria.

He said, "if we must shoot for excellence in the delivery of hospitality service, then we must be ready to invest in training. Our intention to set up the Planet One Academy is therefore, a statement of commitment and conviction on our part, to ensure that the sector can boast of the very best service delivery available anywhere in the world."

Ikhioda said the Academy will offer qualitative opportunity to train people to run hospitality service organisations, such as bars, restaurants, hotels, resorts, while providing airline operators a platform to obtain best-in class training for their personnel within the shores of Nigeria.

This, according to Ikhioda, is because the Academy will offer not just internationally recognised certificates, but also best in class entrepreneurial skills for participants to be able to set up and run world class hospitality services in any part of the world.

The Academy which will be run by expatriate lecturers to be provided by Ecole Hoteliere De Lausanne, will also enrich Nigeria's credentials as a travel destination where the best of hospitality services is available, while opening a wider vista of international career opportunities for more Nigerians.

Thomas Hartleyb, Director of Operations, Ecole Hoteliere De Lausanne, described the vision as noble and indicative of the level of thought leadership available in the organisation.
