Former governor of Lagos State, Alhaji Lateef Jakande has advised Nigerians to return to their old values, where elderly people were treated with respect and dignity in the society.
He gave the advise Tuesday at the launch Fragile Feet Magazine, published by Mrs Adunni Adediran to celebrate the virtue of old people in our society.
Jakande opined that the country would gain much, if elderly people are respected, adding that the nation is suffering due to the lack of advice from elderly people with wealth of knowledge.
"Nigeria is losing a lot because today's leaders are ignoring the elders and do not seek their wisdom and ideas before embarking on any mission," he said. Jakande deplored the trend today where elders are ignored in nation-building.
The knowledge, these great men and women acquired, he said, cannot be ignored because the system needed them to move focussed.
"We expect the society to drink from the wisdom of these elderly persons, we need the old people, we need the senior citizens, most of us do not know what we loss by keeping them away from the scheme of things", he said.
He also said that the nation needs a forum that would give the senior citizens, the opportunities to contribute to the development of the country.
