Former President, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, has said good engineering leads to economic growth and technological development in any nation. Obasanjo said this at the commissioning of the National Engineering Centre by the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), in Abuja, yesterday.
Commissioning the edifice, he said there can be no development without engineering, and that with proper development of Nigeria 's engineering capacity, the country will be among the world's most developed 20 economies by the year 2020.
He, also an Engineer, commended NSE President, Engineer Emeka Nzeh and his executive committee members, for having made judicious use of the N250million given to NSE as grant by his administration for the completion of the project. He also lauded efforts of NSE members for having funded construction of the building from their private pockets.
Nzeh pledged the continued commitment of the body to pro-actively considering issues and assisting government in policy formulation and implementation of national programmes, especially in the fields of science, engineering and technology.
