AAAN Conference Explores Creativity in Business

The place of creativity as the most powerful and potent force in every business will be the central theme of discourse as the 2007 Annual General Meeting (AGM)/ Conference of the Association of Advertising Agencies of Nigeria (AAAN) gets underway in Abuja, the nation's capital. As expected, it would be one of the largest gathering in recent times of creative egg-heads with representations drawn from the about one hundred member advertising agencies presently in the fold of the association.

Now in its 34th edition, the yearly AAAN conference has continually provided the much needed forum whereby advertising agency practitioners come together to rub minds, proffer lasting solutions to most of their business challenges and to chart the way forward for the advertising industry and profession. Top among the various challenging issues is the nagging industry debt situation, inter-agency and inter-sectoral relationships, client/agency relations and indeed ever frosty business relations with the media houses.

Holding between August 1st to 3rd, 2007 at the prestigious Transcorp Hilton Hotel, this year's event features an International Seminar to be addressed by two distinguished business personalities, South Africa based Cyril M. Ramaphosa, renowned skillful negotiator and strategist who is reckoned as one of the world's 100 most influential businessmen according to the Times Magazines.

Widely respected as a skillful and formidable negotiator and strategist, he is best known for building the biggest and most powerful empowerment institution in South Africa called the Black Economic Empowerment Commission. He is Executive Chairman to several leading business corporations amongst which include the MTN Group Limited, Shanduka Group, the Bidvest Group, Standard Bank, Alexander Forbes, South Africa Breweries, Fest Rand, Medscheme, SASRIA among others. He is deputy chairman, Commonwealth Business Council, Member International Advisory Board of Coca-Cola Company and member Advisory Council of Unilever.

The seminar would also feature Nigeria's own Tony Elumelu, Group Managing Director of UBA Group, who will deliver a key note lecture. Elumelu was the former Managing Director of Standard Trust Bank, a commercial bank which acquired the distressed Crystal Bank. Elumelu has the vision of being the 'the role model for African business'.

Also, most critical to this yearly conference, it is an election year AGM and members would be electing a new crop of executive council members who will steer the ship of the association's leadership for yet another business year. For the Enyinaya Odigbo-led current exco, the time is here for account rendering after running one of the most critical periods in the association's history.

But one question most germane to the minds of industry observers is who steps in to be president of the association especially now with most of the prominent owners of leading agencies having taken their respective turns in the leadership of the association.
