Chrisantus Macaulay Eyes Olympic Team

Chrisantus Macaulay says that he would not mind being a part of Nigeria's Olympic team to the Beijing games later this year. Macaulay, who signed for German side, Hamburg, soon after emerging top scorer at last year's Fifa Under-17 World Cup, says he cherishes playing under Samson Siasia. "Coach Siasia is doing very well when it comes to giving young players the chance to prove themselves and I will be very happy if I get a chance to display my skills.

Coach Siasia, too, is a proven coach who knows how to bring the best in any player. If I get to play under him, I know I will deliver. I have been really fine-tuned now and with all modesty, the Chrisantus of South Korea World Cup is quite different to the one in Hamburg now. I think I play better and utilise chances now more than before. I just need to be given a chance to prove my worth," he said.

Macaulay congratulated Siasia and the Olympics' team for qualifying for the Beijing event and says he believes the country is blessed with adequate talent and competent technical crew to lead the team to win gold in soccer in the Olympics. "I can assure you that this team will surprise everybody in China because Nigeria has so many quality players that will do the nation proud. Coach Siasia, too, is a proven coach who knows how to bring the best in any player. It I get to play under him, I know I will deliver and utilize the chance given to me," he assured.

He also informed KickOffNigeria.com that he has broken into the first team at Hamburg who may play in the European Champions League next season as they are currently second on the Bundesliga league behind leaders, Bayern Munich. "I am really enjoying my stay in Hamburg. You won't believe it that I have played from the bench twice now and my coach told me it is only a matter of time before I will pick a regular shirt and announce my entrance into German league. He wants me to understudy the lead strikers in the team for some time and that is the reason why I was put on the bench of the main team. My coach has seen my performance in the reserve team where I scored some great goals."
