Wife or Maid Service?

Today's women should be very glad they were not born at a time when wives were adviced to provide maid service in order to provide what men of that time considered as wifely duties.

While some men today would wish their wives adherred to such advice today, most will realize that unless they had robots as wives or married their maids, the chances of today's women [especially working women who put in equal working hours, before returning home to take care of the kids while equally trying to satisfying their mates], adherring to such sexist advice is closer to nil than reality.

Tips like "Never complaining if the husband comes home very late or not at all" will NEVER fly in this day. Thank God such advice was given to American women, because even in the 50s African women would never have tolerated such subserviency. Thank God Africans and specifically Nigerians have usually had a system where househelps are employed to do household chores, and thereby alleviate some of the burdens women would have otherwise had to endure in addition to raising children and trying to satisfy their husband's other whims.

While one or two of the tips may seem reasonable, all the others are sexist and unrealistic, and downright demeaning, e.g. "his topics of conversation are more important than yours". One cannot but wonder if these advice were written by a controlling, chauvenistic man, or a brainwashed, abused women.

Read the below "Good Housekeeping Tips" given to women in 1955. Thereafter you're free to laugh, cry, rage or faint.
