What is So Special About Nigerian Women?

Nigerian women are unique in many ways.

They realize the importance of brain over beauty and combine both well to make, announce or maintain their stance in society.

A Nigerian woman knows how to speak her mind and get her point across without fear. Being educated or not, has no impact on their ability to express themselves.

They are very versatile and can be a typical African woman, able to provide all the needs of a typical African man, while simultaneously exhibiting all the defining qualities of a westernized woman.

A typical Nigerian woman can be as modern as can be, without losing the unique qualities that makes her an African. (This is evident in the use of language, mode of dressing, hairstyles, cooking etc.)

A typical Nigerian woman knows how to be a LADY.

Physically they are usually well endowed with all the qualities any man would WOW for. They have all the right curves in the right places, and know what to do with their endowments.

They are beautiful Africans who take pride in their beauty.

Despite the differences in ethnicity, Nigerian women have attributes that distinguish them as Nigerians, not only among other Africans, but also amongst their African-American sisters.

The typical Nigerian woman, knows and owns her attributes. She knows when, where and how to use them to her advantage.

She knows she's the backbone of her family, and will respect her mate/spouse to accord him his dues as the head of the family.

She knows she doesn't need to be subservient to earn the 'respect' of her mate.

Having been taught from childhood the value of family (Nigeria being a country that values family unions), she gracefully respects her elders, her family members, her spouse and in-laws.
For instance a Nigerian woman who marries into an existing household, will not begrudge the fact that she has to respect the existing offsprings and wife of her spouse, even if she chooses to disassociate with the first wife.

The typical Nigerian woman takes pride in her Africanism, and displays this in her versatility and ability to wear African attires, and hairdo with grace and gallant to whatever occasion she deems fit.

They know what's hip and happening worldwide and Nigerian women are considered the best dressed African women.

They know how to dance, regardless of whether it's at a cultural festival, traditional or western party or charity ball.

They realize the importance of raising their children well and make sure to instill good manners, respect, confidence, ambition and a sense of responsibility in them at very young ages.

No matter the level of education and/or exposure, a typical Nigerian woman doesn't throw away her cultural or traditional attributes, but combines them with what she's learnt anew, in enhanced ways, to boost her relationships with others.

Typical Nigerian women know how to, and takes pride in their ability to cook. They know their men love good and tantalizing African dishes and take pleasure in satisfying their men's palate. A typical woman who has a househelp may allow the maid to cook for her children, but will make sure she cooks for her husband.

Nigerian women are very ambitious and mostly independent.

Nigerian women are very entrepreneurial, and some are even the main breadwinners in their homes.

Nigerian women are very dedicated to their families.

[N.B. these may or may not include some of the limited scope of women who have limitations brought on by their strict religious laws and practices. They are the minority and NOT the norm.]

Umm, you just described me to a T except for the cooking part. I know how to cook, I just don't like to cook. I work 7 days a week and the last thing I want to see is chicken laying up in the frig waiting to be cooked!! Ha ha! However, my husband is an excellent cook and folks just wow over his cooking.

I guess this topic should have been called strong black woman. I am not from Nigeria (possibly Ghana? I don't know?) but I do possess these traits!

Cxsm, I think ppl are are kinda shy about laying the jelly, sugar, and honey thick like you just did. Dude, I was blushing when I read this. We all know the wonderful and quirky attributes of our sisters and brothers. It's the reason why there are 50 times more Nigerian chat forums than there are any other African websites.

No matter where we go or who we're with (example, me) we still like to be around each other.

Folks, an edited version of an ode to Nigerian women I wrote several years ago. I hope ya like it.

Naija women I love yall.
I love the way you walk and the way you talk,
The way wear you wear your shiny silky hair,
The way that you flutter those seductive eyes,
And your warm uplifting "fanimorous" smiles,

The way you uplift a man with a word of encouragement,
giving us the will to combat discouragement,
believing in us when we don't believe in ourselves,
with a word calming us when we want to yell,

Your style and dress sense is so so fly,
The way you "spoot" and wear your head ties,
The way you move when ya dance to the phunky tunes,
is enough to rid any man of the blues,

So Naija gaiz go get yo lady,
A woman from Naija to be your baby,
Atun leyin ju, oloju arede,
eleyin ju ege, ayo bi ojo,
ayo bi osu, amolewa amoloju,
adulewa aduloju,

Burnished bronze, palm oil light,
Charcoal black you's all a'ight,
The way your skin shines sets my heart on fire,
Those mesmerising eyes make it feel so much lighter,
The way you look at us makes us feel so special,
cos you are ooooohhhh so delectable,

You is all dat and so much more,
what else in a woman can a man ask for,
So Naija women one thing of yore,
is that I love you all and that's for sure.

Actually, that was a good contribution to all women.........

I couldn't understand the Yoruba words though, please interpret the portion that follows the 1st two lines, so I can fully appreciate the poem.
