The governor of Kaduna state, Architect Namadi Sambo, has marked his first 100 days in office by distributing free uniforms to primary school pupils in the state with a pledge to accord education the highest priority.
At the ceremony at the Kargi road LEA Primary School in Kaduna south local government council at the weekend, Namadi said, "we have identified the education sector as the key to every development for either the individual or the society as a whole.
"This administration is very committed to improving the quality of basic education by ensuring that the foundation level of the sector is strengthened through enhanced budgetary allocations for the provision of infrastructural facilities, learning materials and capacity building for classroom teachers.
"The provision of free uniforms to public primary school pupils is therefore one, among several strategies our administration has introduced and will continue to implement to improve access to basic education for all school-age children", the governor added.
Namadi called on parents to reciprocate the gesture by ensuring that their children not only attend school regularly, but are allowed to reach completion level of basic education and beyond and directed the state's universal primary school board to monitor and supervise the schools to ensure government's efforts to revamp education yields positive results.
