Jigawa state's efforts at creating employment opportunities in the state has received a major private sector boost with Oceanic Bank financing the purchase of 33 buses for the Jigawa Mass Transit scheme; at a total cost of N219 million.

According to the Managing Director of the Bank, Dr. Cecilia Ibru, the partnership and financing not only assisted the government in rehabilitating the abandoned agency, it also offered employment opportunities for more than 40 indigenes of the state. Ibru disclosed this at the Government Girls Arabic Secondary School (GGASS), Babura, Jigawa state while handing over classrooms and other blocks renovated by the bank to Governor Sule Lamido.

The MD, who was represented by the Executive Director North, Mr. Charles Mekwunye, assured the state government of the bank's willingness to continue to collaborate with the government to save the people of the state from the clutches of poverty. She said, "we are committed to your Excellency's vision and would continue to partner with the government in all areas in order to fight poverty in Jigawa state."

Other areas in which she said the bank has contributed to the eradication of poverty in the state include the disbursement of more than N10 million micro finance loans to 11 groups of low income earners, to address poverty in the state. She also disclosed that the bank has disbursed over N50 million to microfinance banks in the state, in conjunction with the National Poverty Eradication Programme (NAPEP).

On the renovated school, Ibru noted that the bank undertook the projects because of its conviction that education is the backbone of development in any nation. She declared that the renovations was in continuation of the bank's resolve to continue to improve its environment and also stands as evidence of its continues support to the government.
