Niger State Government has concluded arrangements to construct 200 Housing Units in Kontagora. The state governor, Dr. Babangida Aliyu, who disclosed this at the flag-off of Jamaa Forum (Peoples Assembly) in Kontagora at the weekend, said the houses would be ready for inauguration before the end of the year.
Aliyu explained that the project was part of his administration's mass housing programme, aimed at making accommodation easily affordable in the State. He stated that the gesture would be extended to other urban areas so that dividends of democracy would be felt in all the nooks and crannies of the state. The governor, however, lamented the educational backwardness of the zone and called on the stakeholders to map out strategies to redress the situation.
Aliyu enjoined parents to take advantage of the free education for the Girl - Child to enroll their female children in school. While reiterating the determination of his administration to up-hold the virtues of transparency and accountability at all times, the governor denied insinuations in some quarters that he was persecuting some people, insisting that those who collected public fund must account for such.
He explained that the Jamaa Forum was conceived as a way of bringing government closer to the people at the grassroots, to enable those at the helms of affairs to have first hand information on the needs and aspirations of the people and to enable them know about the programmes and activities of the government.
In his contribution, former minister of works, Gen. Mamman Kontagora, commended the foresight of the governor and urged him to extend governmental projects to all parts of the state. He particularly appealed to the governor to find immediate solutions to infrastructural decay in the area, to enable people feel the dividends of democracy.
Important personalities which included Sen. Nuhu Aliyu and Dahiru Kuta as well as Gen. Gado Nasko, the state deputy governor, Hon. Ahmed Ibeto, Speaker of the State Assembly, Alh. Mohammed Alkali, traditional rulers, commissioners, federal and state lawmakers among others attended the forum.
