My Choice

I'm making a choice to see only the positive and pronounce only what is positive about Nigeria. It may seem like I'm the only voice, but I'd like to think I'm not.

Every utterance is a pronouncement of what we want to speak into being, therefore today 4/27/01, I resolve to at least make the attempt to see only the good in Nigeria. Maybe then I can begin to find ways to make it better.

I speak not only for myself, although I can only be assured of myself, but for all those who are willing to make the same resolution.

When one's child is, I won't say bad, for God has not created anything bad, so I choose to say "not of the best character," one does not discard him/her but seeks any and all ways possible to change that child. As you would treat that child with nurturing, love, discipline and wisdom, patience, understanding and sometimes even counseling, constantly seeking others wisdom and knowledge to improve the child, so that you're not ashamed of that which has come from you; which after all are choices you've resolved to make, so you can treat Nigeria as the aging parents who once nurtured you, but now need you to help them as they age.

You can CHOOSE to give back the love it once gave you, no matter how small.

Maybe you were born in the 80's and 90's and feel you can't relate, but no matter how small, it surely has given you something, be it be a heritage, a worthy and meaningful name, a culture, a tradition, a language, a citizenship where you're not 2nd class because of the colour of your skin or accent. Even a sense of humour, a sense of individualism, an inspiration to achieve something with your life, to make something out of nothing, to be entrepreneurial.

Today as I've chosen to make the choice not only to see good, but to speak of the goodness of Nigeria, I will not use my mouth to pronounce curses on Nigeria for s/he who throws a stone in a glass house definitely will have it crash down, guess on who. I will not condone curses on her either.

For those who feel you can disassociate yourself from your motherland no matter your passport, you have at least one family member, no matter how far extended over there. Your mansion may be in Bel Air, but your grandparent's home no matter your hometown, city or village is still there. You may have intermarried, but that blood still flows in you.

It is time to take back what has been stolen, the joys of being proud to be called a Nigerian, being sought after and associated with, because you're a Nigerian, being elevated in society because you are Nigerian. The 70's was a joy and the future can still be, beginning today IF you resolve to make it so.

Once upon a time many parents wanted to adopt a Nigerian name, because of the pride that came with it, you heard Aisha, Ola, Ade, etc., as adopted names. People were beginning to relate to a culture so rich, that names actually had meanings, well, it's not too late Nigeria can still be a "Morenike" (I have someone to cherish), IF you make that your choice.

Yes, every nation has its ills, but even he who is sick seeks treatment. Is there a doctor in the house? Just like God said "Who shall I send?", well, you can choose to make this your calling and contribute what you can.

Today resolve to "FOCUS ON THE SOLUTION, NOT THE PROBLEM."
Begin to prophesy goodness, peace, prosperity, life, good health, healing, joy, favour, contentment, victory, deliverance, progress, strength, wealth, mercy, grace, blessings, miracles, even power, and most especially the will of God upon Nigeria, you just may be surprised to see what the outcome will be.

You don't have to be spiritual, religious or even sentimental to prophecy goodness with your mouth. God gave each person a tongue and you can choose to speak life or death with it. Make that choice today, of what you choose to speak over Nigeria.

Just like you choose what you speak over your own children, CHOOSE your words wisely and kindly over the nation that bore you. For those non-Nigerians reading this, remember "Touch not my anointed one"and NO ONE, NOT ONE CAN CURSE THAT WHICH GOD HAS BLESSED.

Contribute to the goodness not the detriment. Maybe this can be applied to your own country whichever it is.

To those Nigerians who have been contributing to its ills and tainting its great name remember "A great name is better than riches."

Nigeria is presently being chastised, but is definitely on its journey of restoration back to good health, riches, blessings, wisdom, joy, and a people proud of their heritage.

Stay blessed.

I am glad that there are people like you out there.

I have ALWAYS made sure that I speak only the best about Nigeria and inspite of all the jokes and the comments from people (all Nigerian family and friends), I continue to do that.

People forget that "if you say your father is a mad man, nobody will argue with you. They will join you in calling your father exactly that".

Nigeria is the only country I have and despite all our problems,I LOVE MY COUNTRY and I will not trade it for anything.

Do the best you can from your corner of the world and slowly, the ripple might just go around to all Nigerians.

I may not be a Nigerian but I have to say that I am proud of what you are doing. I remember when I first found the need to search out Nigeria, I went looking to find positive things. I was disheartened to see very little out there. That is when I was pleasantly surprised to find this site. It was a breath of fresh air. She may have her woes like every other country but that does not mean that there are not plenty of things to be proud of. I know you lost much of which you worked long and hard from the previous verion of naijapositive. I am glad you are back up and running. I will do my small part in assisting.

Thanks dear. I appreciate the support of those of you who have decided to go the whole 9 yards with me. Some others simply choose to browse without contributing, but that's their choice. Life's usually that way, some people wait for others to do the hard work, but everyone wants to share the glory.

I certainly feel you on that one. I don't know why people join a website and not "give back". Participation makes a site more interesting. :-) So for all of you who are just READING, jump in and participate, we don't bite

Re: My Choice

Thank you for sharing this Cxsm. As you said, that which is blessed by GOD can not be cursed by anyone, with prayer and the power of GOD, Nigeria will grow to what GOD has intended it to be.

Again, thanks for sharing, it was inspiring.
