Lagos, Police Unfold Fresh Security Measures
To curb the rising crime rate in Lagos metropolis and its environs, the state government and the police have unfolded fresh security measures to check the ugly trend.
In a statement signed by Hakeem Bello, Senior Special Assistant Media to Governor Babatunde Fashola, under the new security arrangement, plain clothe and uniformed security agents will from 4.00 p.m till midnight daily patrol all the areas where armed robbers attack motorists during traffic snarls.
Among the areas that would be covered by the security dragnet are the Third Mainland Bridge, Apogbon, Ketu- Mile 12 area, Mile 2, Apapa and other areas identified by the Special anti-crime patrol teams. The operation would involve surveillance and patrol of the identified black spots by security agents who would be drawn from the combined security forces.
The latest move is part of the proactive measures designed by the state government to tackle the menace of armed robbers who utilise traffic bottlenecks to dispossess motorists of their personal effects. As part of efforts to ensure success of the new security onslaught, the state government has enjoined members of the public to be vigilant in their neighbourhoods and report any suspicious movement to security agencies.
The following telephone numbers were also provided for distress call to the state funded Rapid Response Squad (RRS) based in the Lagos State Secretariat for quick intervention: 01-7745705- Control room 01-7745706- Control room 08034420406- Controllers 08038594515- Controllers 08057456586- Controllers 08023335749- Controllers 08060357795- Control One at Oduduwa, Ikeja.
Fashola had last week inaugurated a 31-member security committee to tackle several issues revolving round the growing state of insecurity in the centre of excellence.
