The Kano state government yesterday inaugurated a 10 man Regional Water Rehabilitation Supply Committee to manage the reactivation of four schemes getting water to people's homes. Inaugurating the committee, the state's deputy governor, Engr. Abdullahi I. Mohammed Gwarzo, Friday at his office, explained that the schemes included that of Kusalla, Joda, Tiga/Rano and Gail water supply schemes respectively.

Engr. Gwarzo stated that the state government has redeemed its pledges to provide 350KVA generating sets to all the water treatment plants across the state. He appealed to the local government areas to ensure they fulfill their pledge to provide counterpart funds to maintain the plants.

Engr. Gwarzo noted that presently, only Bebeji local government has complied by providing a generator set to Tiga water treatment scheme to compliment the one provided by the state government. Similarly, the deputy governor stated that the state government has approved about N211 million to purchase generators for the rehabilitation of the regional water scheme and inspection vehicle for the effective functioning of the schemes.

Also, the Kusalla water scheme needed the sum of N6.48 million monthly from the benefiting local government areas that includes Gwarzo, Karaye, Kiru and Shanono for its operation and maintenance. He then advised the committee to make the best use of the opportunity and the confidence reposed on them by exhibiting honesty, dedication and fear of God in the discharge of their assignment.

Earlier, the managing director, State Water Board, Engr. Yahaya Bala Karaye, had expressed satisfaction with the level of support, cooperation and concern demonstrated by the deputy governor and expressed hope with that the issue of water scarcity would be a thing of the past with the appointment of the state's deputy governor to monitor the Water Ministry.
