Ondo State government has approved release of N173.8 million for the purchase of science equipment for five technical schools in the state. The schools are Government Technical College, Owo, Idanre, Okitipupa, Oke-Igbo and Ikare.

Commissioner of Information and Orientation, Chief Eddy Olafeso, said this while briefing journalists on the outcome of the Executive Council meeting. According to Olafeso, the fund was in line with government's commitment to the development of science and technical education, which is the bedrock of economic development.

He also announced release of fund amounting to N233 million for rehabilitation of Igbokoda township roads in the headquarters of Ilaje Local Government, which would be undertaken by Ondo State Oil Producing Area Development Commission (OSOPADEC), is very strategic, as the town is the gateway to other towns in Ilaje Local Government.

He said the council has also approved the N102 million OSOPADEC 2006 supplementary capital budget as passed by the House of Assembly.

In the area of sports development, he said government approved the sum of N13.9 million for payment of the balance of sign on fees of players and technical crew of state-owned Sunshine Stars Football Club, which gained promotion into the nation's premier league.

Olafeso also said N3.6 million has been released as reward for players, in appreciation of the promotion to the elite league, adding that government was doing a lot of things to promote sports development in the state.
