Federal Road Maintenance Agency (FERMA), has reiterated its readiness to focus more on the quality and maintenance of the Nigerian roads to ensure a better networking for motorists. Managing director of the agency, Engr. Olubunmi O. Peters, stated this in an interactive session with journalists at the board room of the agency in Abuja.

While highlighting on the agency's achievement in road construction within the last two years, he noted that N25-30 billion would be needed to maintain our roads if they were in good shape, but with its present state maintenance, would cost more.

In this regard, a basic estimate of N40 billion for its annual normal maintenance would be needed, adding that the agency needed to improve on the quality of the roads, "N70 billion for a period of about 8 years will be needed to improve on the road network".

The agency, as part of its readiness to clear debts owed contractors, has been able to pay 85 percent of the money within 15 days to the tune of N20.2 billion. Engr. Peters assured that the money gotten would be applied to the maintenance of the road network as there was no end to the maintenance of roads
