Effects of Negative Media Material on Children

Considering the types of shows that are portrayed in the mainstream media, most of which are increasing becoming violent, occultic or of adult contents; the increasing violent video games being produced and distributed; and the increasing use of explicit language and sexual scenes in movies (irrespective of so-called content warnings); without even counting the several unsolicited adult and sexually explicit internet daily spam mail; is anyone concerned about their effects on children in general?

Some parents have also expressed objection to some subject matters being taught to their children in Diaspora schools, such as subtle witchcraft through Harry potter and other such books, homosexuality as part of sexual education at very tender ages, occult through Yoga meditation, and books pertaining to subtle occult practices, etc.

Please feel free to express your views and suggestions and/or solutions.

My view about this; I feel that this is wrong but it seems there is really close to nothing that can be done about it because people will claim the right to freedom of expression and so on (this does not mean we are not concerned about the effects.). I feel what should be done is to intensify sexual and reproductive health education to Children.

Also the videos, should be played in the Night and should strictly be for people over 18 years of age.

I also object to teachings on homosexuality, witchcraft as part of sexuality education. We can create a network against this and get signatures on a petition against this act.

Thanks.

I think that what is alraming is the disconnect in the mind of viewers. It's almost as if people have lost their moral compasses...On the one hand, viewers consistently stated that they didnt understand what the big deal was, in relation to the Janet Jackson fiasco during the super bowl, and the whole 5 second relay issue with the FCC.

On the other hand, these same people are complaining that kids today are out of hand, engaging in what would have been considered scandalous sexual behavior ten years ago, as pre-teens of seven or eight years of age...

I think the solution is simple: parents should a] educate their wards about the subtle indoctrination that is occuring through the media, as soon as their children are old enough to start sleeping over in other people's houses b] Ban cable and general TV viewing in favor of more constructive pursuits that build intellect c] screen the books that children borrow and read from libraries, and d] make sure that kids hang out with people who have similar views/outlooks.

Does it sound a bit high-handed?

I dont think so. I think that the pre-teen ages are the most important years during in human development. And I think that the innocence that makes childhood a nostalgic experience when we are older must be preserved at all costs, even if it means fighting tooth and nail against a largely unseen and undefined establishment.

Re: Effects of negative media material on children

Why should we blame children bad behaviours on the media. I think TV
is still one of the best place or places children can learn new
things.
