Nigerian Doctor Recognised in UK
The British government, through the Minister of State for Immigration and Nationality, Mr Liam Byrne, MP, has given recognition as a highly skilled professional to Dr Olayiwola Ajileye under the Highly Skilled Migrant Professional (HSMP) programme.
This was conveyed in a letter written on the 14th March, 2007, to Mr Sion Simon, Member of Parliament representing his constituency following his representation on the immense contribution of Dr Ajileye to the UK health system in the area of Mental Health Services.
The University of Ibadan 1997 graduate had been granted a Highly Skilled status in 2005 under the Managed Migration policy of the British government, but his application for an extension in line with the existing policy was carelessly appraised by caseworkers in the Home Office, which prompted the direct involvement of Mr Simon and British Medical Association (BMA) of which he is a member.
This situation was then brought to the attention of the Prime Minister, Mr Tony Blair, and the Minister of State for Immigration and Nationality, resulting in an urgent review and apology for the error. This subsequently led to overule of the Home Office mistakes in a manner characteristic of British Labour government’s fairness, justice and equity.
The review substantially revealed that Dr Ajileye was, infact, eminently qualified under the review point scoring system having worked in the National Health Service (NHS) for many years.
Dr Ajileye, who also holds a Masters Degree (MSc) in International Health Management and Development from the School of Public Policy, University of Birmingham, has trained and worked as a Psychiatrist under the Keele University Psychiatry Specialist programme.
He is a member of the British Medical Association (BMA) and Royal College of Psychiatrists. He specialises in General Adult Psychiatry, Addiction and Health Insurance Development. He holds a Certificate of Health Insurance Practice from the Chartered Insurance Institute, London, and he is an affiliate of the American Healthcare Executives (ACHE).
Dr Ajileye is currently the CEO of Valor Health Options Ltd. UK and he once served as the Editor-in-Chief of DOKITA Editorial Board, UCH, Ibadan. He has produced several published articles and commentaries on Social Policy and Politics in Nigeria.
