China Doubles Scholarships for African Students

The Chinese government has doubled the number of scholarship it grants to Africa to 4,000 students per year, says Yu Wenzhe, China’s Ambassador to Ghana. The expanded package is China's contribution to help Africa to achieve its goals, Mr. Wenzhe said at a reception he hosted for 34 Ghanaian students who have received Chinese government scholarships for the 2008-2009 academic year.

According to the Ambassador, the Chinese government values these educational scholarships as a means of boosting friendship between the two countries and China is also helping the University of Ghana make the Chinese language an attractive course for students of the university.
