Apologies Can Go a Long Way
Sometimes all it takes is a genuine heartfelt apology to begin the healing process that is required to mend fences.
At times atrocities that have been committed against certain, people, nations or races run very deep, and refusal to acknowledge and apologize for such atrocities only worsen and deepen the gap between the people involved.
Arrogance or denial have never been known to cause healing, and sometimes just being manly enough to acknowledge that an atrocity has been committed, regardless of the reasons why they were committed to begin with, are what the affected parties need to open their arms to the parties who have hurt them.
Following such acknowledgment with a sincere apology can only help rather than hurt the healing process.
Sometimes as humans, for whatever reasons: arrogance, superiority-complex, ignorance and/or defiance, we refuse or delay possible healing processes thereby worsening ongoing situations.
Other times, it's the fear of having to compensate or pay retributions that causes delays or refusals to apologize by the parties that committed the atrocities. But delays or denials can only worsen situations and cause additional discord, especially when the affected parties reach out for one, yet feel shunned.
I hope as we learn and work to bridge gaps in our personal relationships we can likewise work as nations to bridge existing gaps between nations, especially those caused by atrocities. These steps begin with you and me.
