Adeyinka Adebayo - The Voice of Yoruba Elders
The influence of General Adeyinka Adebayo is better represented in his ability to make his son, Otunba Niyi governor of Ekiti State, which used to be a fraction of the western region which he himself ruled as a military governor.
Today, Adebayo (snr) is the President of the Yoruba Council of Elders (YCE), a pan-Yoruba group believed to be sympathetic to the cause of President Olusegun Obasanjo, as a rival to Afenifere, which often criticizes the president. Since he was made President of the Yoruba group, Adebayo has demonstrated adequate cohesion in his duty as President of the group. His influence has greatly helped to re-position the group as the voice of Afenifere seems to be dying down gradually.
