Speaking to newsmen at the occassion, the executive chairman of the council, Hon Musa Yahaya Mohammed, pointed out that his administration has resolved to ensure that the people are given attention especially in health related cases. "In realising that most of our people suffer from eye related diseases, this administration have decided to invite experts who will from now , till the next few days, carry out operation on those patients at the expense of the government of Abaji Area Council", he said.
Yahaya, in the believe of the saying that 'health is wealth' has procured and distributed anti-snake venom for victims of snake bite and has also introduced the payment of hospital bills for women that went through surgery operation during delivery. The children were not left out as his administration has supported the conduct of national immunisation exercise to help in controlling child killer diseases.
He promised that his administration will not waver on her policy of making life better to the entire citizens of Abaji, adding that their efforts will be redoubled to ensure that non of their electioneering campaign promises is left unfulfilled, promising to do more to live Abaji better than he met it.
Addressing the press, the team leader of the eye experts from the national eye centre Kaduna, Haruna Ahmed, informed that 36 patients have already been operated upon while others were waiting for the operation. Hundreds whose cases does not require operation were given free medical eye glasses.
Ahmed noted that majority of the people already treated have cases of cartaract which he identified as the major problem in Nigeria community attached with the poor and elderly.
Most of the beneficiaries who spoke to our correspondent thanked the chairman for coming to their aid as majority of them have suffered the eye problem for years without adequate treatment due to lack of money.
"I really thank our chairman for carrying out this exercise, it is the first of its kind at the council where treatment is totally free and people are being attended to according to registration. "We pray that God will continue to increase our chairman" says a beneficiary who gave his name as Zakari Alhassan.
Another beneficiary, Isa Mohammed, pointed out that lack of money have prevented him from attending to his eye problem since it started many years ago. "I appreciate the chairman and the Ona of Abaji for coming to our aid because most of us are poor and cannot afford medical treatment. So, we thank our chairman for giving us this rare opportunity to make use of our eyes again".
